Thank you for inquiring about Homebuyer Education from MSU Extension. A Homeownership Education course is required for being approved for MSHDA loans or Down Payment Assistance. MSU Extension is currently offering weekly four-hour webinars which you can join virtually. The cost is $25 with income-based scholarships available. To request a scholarship, email the instructor before the class with your county of residence, household annual income and household size. If you qualify, the instructor will email you a coupon code to include in your registration. See the attached flyer for upcoming dates. You can also find them in the Events channel at https://www.canr.msu.edu/mimoneyhealth/. From the flyer or website, click to register.
We also offer a self-paced online class through eHome America at you can find at https://www.ehomeamerica.org/msue. The coupon code is MSUE10 to receive $10 off when you register, costing $89.
After you complete either of these two options, you will receive a certificate of completion to give your loan officer, which is required for MSHDA loans or down payment assistance. Both you and your wife must attend if both your names will be on the mortgage and for both names to be on the certificate.Hopefully one of these choices will work for you for homebuyer education.
