Curly leaves on my fruit trees #754683

Asked June 07, 2021, 10:21 PM EDT

Is there a spray that will fit on my hose to help with the leaf curl on my fruit trees to prevent bugs?

Deschutes County Oregon

Expert Response

Hi Carol,  The first step to successfully managing any insect is identifying the insect so that the management will work for that pest.  Do you know what is causing the leaf to curl? Is the leaf curling right now?  If so can you take a photo and send it to me at the email address below or bring in a branch sample to our plant clinic in Redmond?  There are hose end sprayers that you can use for insecticides, herbicides, etc.  But I am unable to make a recommendation for a product until we have identified the pest.  Feel free to call me also.   Thanks

Is there an insect tucked into the leaves or the leaves are just discolored?

There appears to be little worms.

Hi Carol,

That is a leafroller.  You can use products containing Btk, azadiracthin, or  spinosad. Follow all label directions,  read more on leafroller here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/tree-fruit/apple/apple-leafroller

Thanks
