Common Hackberry #754489

Asked June 07, 2021, 11:59 AM EDT

I planted my Hackberry in May of 2020. It is very healthy but I am concerned that it is growing at an angle. I had staked it lightly with twine last summer but evidently not secure enough. I am wondering if I can stake it again with stronger rope and stake it 6 inches below the first set of branches. The tree is 12'

Expert Response

Something a little more substantial will help. Regardless the tree will reach for the sun.

You are welcome, happy summer.

Hi,
A while back I asked about my Hackberry tree. I have another question. Some of the leaves have hard pea size nodules growing on their underside. What are these and should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Those are hackberry galls and rarely cause a problem for trees.
