New house, who is this? #754307

Asked June 06, 2021, 1:39 PM EDT

I have some plants in the yard that I am not sure if I should move, let me until I get to that area, or eliminate at once. Can you tell me the name of these?

Hi Kelli,

You have some invasive plants but some people actually plant them.   The first plant with the cupped leaves and the flowers in the center is referred to as Miner's Lettuce, Claytonia.  The seeds are sold in retail stores or online.

The second one with the long leaves is plantain.  This is used by people to help heal cuts and ranchers seed the fields with it for grazing animals.  Plantain also has a wide leaf variety that you often see as well.

The third with the triangular leaves is Nipplewort.  It has a small yellow flower and reseeds so readily that you will have a yard full of it in no time, a member of the dandelion family.  I know, I decided to leave it one year.  The next year it took me days to get it all out.  Fortunately it pulls out easily.  If you get it out before it goes to seed there should be no problem unless they left it year after year.  I am afraid you will see it each spring.

The same thing for the other two plants if you don't want them, pull them now.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.

The nipplewort was here when we got here, so I suspect it will be around for a while.   One technically observation: any link to the C: drive goes to the computer that you are on and will not work on any other computer.   This particular link also would not work on that computer if you were logged in as a user other than caste.  However, I think I found the document https://ir.library.oregonstate.edu/concern/parent/b5644t41r/file_sets/f1881n90q  (praise google!).

Thank you,  Kellie

Hi Kellie,

Good to know, I was not aware you could not reach it and you know computers much better than I do.  I will remember that for other questions.  Thank you.
