Is this killing my tree? I never seen this before

Image.jpegI hope this helps whatever they are looks like heads are in tree trunk with bodies just hanging out. None my other trees have this caterpillar type looking things

That was immensely helpful.  We believe they are Forest Tent Caterpillars.  They are not killing your tree but do defoliate.  Here is information on this pest: Forest tent caterpillars | UMN Extension
