Insect identifying #754123

Asked June 05, 2021, 11:30 AM EDT

Hello, I work as a river guide and come across many insects, I took a picture of one during my last trip and have had a hard time identifying it. If I may get some help and information about this insect. Thank you, Laura

This is the cast skin of a perlodid stonefly nymph.

More from the expert:

If it is from the Colorado River it is for sure the "golden" stonefly Acroneuria abnormis (Perlidae). This primarily eastern North American species ranges as far West as Utah and Wyoming. It is known from The Colorado River Drainage and the North Platte River Drainage. I have collected it several times in the Colorado River from Palisade to the Utah border.
