Pink blobs on the leaves of my grapevine #754102

Asked June 05, 2021, 9:08 AM EDT

Greetings from Chelsea MI

I have an old grapevine that produces well every season.

This season I see what looks like small, pink egg sacs on some leaves, and a few larger, elongated pink blobs on the tips of the vine/leaf ends. I've never seen this prior, and can't find reference to this anywhere!

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Expert Response

Those look like galls made by a tiny fly called a grape tumid gallmaker. They are rarely a serious enough problem to affect the grape yield. You can prune off affected leaves and shoots. Destroy the prunings by burning or by sending them to the landfill. Otherwise the larvae inside will hatch out and continue to infest your grapevine.
