What bug is this? #753981

Asked June 04, 2021, 12:58 PM EDT

What bug is this? We have lots of them on our hops and we are in Beaverton, OR.

Washington County Oregon

Expert Response

Sean,

Lucky you! That's a young lady beetle, a voracious enemy of aphids.

So, also look carefully for hop aphids, perhaps on the backs of leaves or inside curled leaves.

A harsh water spray will blast off the aphids, repeating as needed. Or use direct hits of commercial insecticidal soap, being careful to avoid the ladybugs as much as possible.

Thank you so much Jean!
