Apple leave disease/pest #753680

Asked June 03, 2021, 8:31 AM EDT

I am in Southeast British Columbia, zone 3. We planted a Honeycrisp apple a few weeks back, a new tree from the local garden centre. It now has leaf rollers, but it also shows many leaves with brown spots and a bit of a hairy fuzz right next to them. I would appreciate advice if I need to treat it / how long to wait before treating it / how to treat it.

Hello Barbara,

Your question was entered in the Michigan Extension queue. I will give you some information that may help.

If you have not followed a spray program you will get leaf spots of various sorts on the leaves.

These guides have a spray program, following the flower and bud stages to time sprays.

While Extension does not endorse retailers or brands, this pollination chart can be used to check if you have cross pollination suitable for your new tree. https://www.acnursery.com/resources/pollination-charts/apple-chart

There are organic options to help with apple pests, such as bagging individual fruits and using kaolin clay. http://www.groworganicapples.com/organic-orcharding-articles/surround-kaolin-clay.php/

I hope this helps you care for your new tree.
