Whether to plant Four O'clock plant in MN #753593

Asked June 02, 2021, 4:24 PM EDT

A friend gave me a Four O'clock plant, they are not native to MN. I am concerned if they are invasive or harmful to MN.

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

There are wild four o’clocks that are perennial.  They can be a bit invasive.  And there are annual four o’clocks that do not survive the cold.  Depending on which you have been given, you would be fine planting the annual. The wild flower could spread to places in the garden and be difficult to remove.
