Expert Response

Further clarification of original email.   I need to know if my lawn needs to have lime applied.   I would like to take a soil sample and send it to your extension office.  Please explain procedure.  My 3.5 acre property is located in Gaylord.

Our website has the information on where to send soil samples ( soiltesting.msu.edu ).  For the 3.5 acres, one sample should do.  Take 15 to 20 subsamples randomly around the parcel and mix up and take out 2 cups to send us for testing.  The cost would be $12.  Make the check out to MSU.  Also print off the submittal form from our website and mail along with the sample.
