Is my ash tree infected with emerald ash borer? #753262

Asked June 01, 2021, 12:49 PM EDT

Hello. In April 2020, my budding ash tree was frozen by a run of several way below 0 degree days. Parts of the tree never recovered and leafing out was very late. It had been inoculated against the borer twice before this freeze. This year it has leafed out by with many bare branches. My tree service says it it has the borer, but I would like to be sure before I have it removed. Obviously the tree service would make money from the removal. Can your office or another service inspect it and render an independent judgment? Thank you very much for your help. Linda Korsgaard<personal data hidden>

Hi Linda,

We are not doing on site visits at this time due to the pandemic, hopefully that will be changing soon. Ash trees were very late in leafing out this year and had a tough time due to the extreme weather we've had. You are right in wanting another opinion before taking down your tree. A good resource for you to contact would be your city arborist. Most, if not all, of the communities have an arborist who can answer tree questions for you.

Hope this helps,

David
