Asked June 01, 2021, 11:22 AM EDT

Small white elongated objects, coated with fibrous/cottony material, found in sheltered/moist area (empty, stacked pots lying on the ground) in close proximity to Daikon radish, green onion, and common lawn plants. First spotted May 27, 2021 in residential area of Southeast DC. Any help with identifying them is much appreciated. Thanks, Julius

Expert Response

Hello Julius,

Insect eggs are hard to identify since most are very non-descriptive. Those actually look like they might have been parasitic wasp pupa, and not eggs. It also looks like they have exit holes in them, so the wasps may have already emerged. Parasitic wasps are beneficial insects that don't harm people but instead lay their eggs inside other insects. You could carefully knock them out of the bottom of your pot into your garden and if they have not hatched, then they will do so later and if they have hatch nature will recycle the casing.
