Expert Response

Hello! I'm sorry to hear you are having pest difficulties in the garden! In this case, I believe you are looking at a young fourlined plant bug. They cause cosmetic damage, but in most cases can be left alone.  In enough numbers, they can cause damage to herbs. If you do identify a need to manage them, you can consider pesticides as well as proper removal and disposal of damaged plants in the fall to reduce the eggs for the next season.  Please note that I mention a pesticide for educational purposes only. Always follow the pesticide label directions attached to the pesticide container you are using. Remember, the label is the law.

Be sure that the vegetable you wish to treat is listed on the label of the pesticide you intend to use. Also be sure to observe the number of days between pesticide application and when you can harvest your crop.

Best of luck!
