Final photo Let me know if you need a photo of the top of the tree or dimensions of the holes. etc. One is about 3-4 inches high.

This looks like woodpecker damage. Pileated woodpeckers are large woodpeckers that make holes like this. Here on the Maryland Biodiversity Project website, you can see photos of the birds and the types of holes they make. https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/view/1157
