Woodpecker damage to tree? #753143

Location: Clarys Forest, Columbia, condo, next to dumpster and open space and parking lot What: holes in tree. Top of tree seems to be living. Did not notice these holes last year. Possibly - damage by kids which have damaged trees in the past Sap is running out Holes are start about 2 feet above ground Photos show tree at a distance then holes around the trunk Next question will show additional photos Thank you

This looks like woodpecker damage. Pileated woodpeckers are large woodpeckers that make holes like this. Here on the Maryland Biodiversity Project website, you can see photos of the birds and the types of holes they make. https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/view/1157
