Red color on lemon balm #753133

Asked May 31, 2021, 7:23 PM EDT

Our previously healthy lemon balm has developed red patches. Not sure if this could be a pathogen or is even related to the red bug pictured?

Saginaw County Michigan

Expert Response

The red patches on your lemon balm look a lot like Septoria Leaf Spot. Septoria Leaf Spot is caused by the fungus Septoria lycopersici, so the red bug has nothing to do with the fungus. An article from the University or Wisconsin Extension has information on Septoria Leaf Spot. The article can be found here: Septoria Leaf Spot – Wisconsin Horticulture .

I hope this information helps.

Thank you!
