Pear fruit problem #753122

Asked May 31, 2021, 6:26 PM EDT

Hi. I noticed today that the pears on our pear tree are diseased, seem to be shriveling up, look mottled and have black areas on them. I'm confident they got pollinated. We have treated the tree last fall and this spring for pear blister mites which we had last year and then we also had to treat it for green worms eating holes in most of our leaves this spring. We've used neem oil, insecticidal soap and another treatment for the blister mites problem that I cannot remember the name of. Not sure if any of those things could be the cause of the problem or if it's yet another problem. I've attached a couple photos. I know they're not too good. Let me know if you need better photos. Thanks!

Hi,  Yes it would be good to get a few photos with the fruit in focus so I can further assist.   Thanks

Thanks
Unfortunately the fruit has all shriveled up and fallen off the tree at this point. What I can say is that I saw a few pieces of fruit with black roundish spots on them. And a lot of them were kind of mottled. I've attached a few photos of some leaves I found on the tree. I don't recall seeing the darker areas on the leaves in prior years. We've had this tree for probably about 7 years. I don't know if the leaf problem is related to the fruit problem.

Hi,  I am not sure if this is the start of fire blight, is the problem progressing where the leaves are continuing to discolor?  It may have also been related to temperature. If the leaves continue to change, you may want to get a sample sent to the main plant clinic in Corvallis or you could bring it here in Redmond as a starting point.  The fruit all dropping sounds like it could be weather related. Here is some additional information on fire blight:  http://pnwhandbooks.stage.extension.oregonstate.edu/plantdisease/host-disease/pear-pyrus-spp-fire-blight
