Sage health in Delta County? #753053

Asked May 31, 2021, 12:13 PM EDT

Re the attach photos, I saw these nodules growing on a couple sage plants on the northwest corner of Q50 and 2550 roads on Cedar Mesa, east of Cedaredge. (I do not own the property, I just walk my dog past here every morning.) I have never seen anything like this and I thought I'd inquire as to whether these are normal or are they a potential threat to the sage population. If a threat, I've only seen these two plants affected - would be easy to eliminate these two plants before they spread. Thanks! Joseph McGill

Expert Response

These are galls.  Insects have laid eggs and this is the reaction by the plant.  Does not hurt the plant.  Very common on certain types of plants.

Thanks for the info Susan. Nice to know this is not (another) thing to worry about.
