Voodoo Lily Question #752627

Asked May 27, 2021, 7:08 PM EDT

My voodoo lily has these small red "sores' on them. Have you ever seen this and what should I do about them? Could it be red blotch from an amaryllis? They don't seem to cause any major harm. I used a topical fungicide and am thinking about trying a systemic kind too. My elephant ears also seem to get infected too but there are not any outward signs, but the tuber has a hint of pink yo it and if I cut a leaf the sap (?) has some red/pink in it too. Thank you!

Expert Response

The fleshy leaf stalk (petiole) is a very interesting mottled pinkish-gray and olive green.  I think that the  red color is normal for this plant.

Good Morning,

No, definitely not part of the plant. Only one of the three plants has them. There's only a few sores and they are concave, little nicks in the stem. They also react to the fungicide.

Leaf Scorch or Red Blotch (fungus – Stagonospora curtisii): Flower stalks are affected resulting in their being distorted and stunted. Affected stalks have bright red lesions that are one-fourth to one-half inches wide and several inches long. In the later stages of infection, a white to brownish-gray mycelium develops in the center of cankers. The fungus is carried over in bulbs and discolored bulbs should be discarded. Foliar fungicides may be used to protect above-ground parts. group of aroids
