leaves dropping from apple trees #752571

Asked May 27, 2021, 3:40 PM EDT

Hi, In the last couple of days my apple trees (10) are dropping their green leaves like flies. What could be causing this? Some of the leaves are partially grey. So sudden. There is fruit on the trees.

Clackamas County Oregon

Expert Response

Apple scab is a common culprit of leaf drop, but not the only one.

Share some photos of the trees overall and closeups of individual twigs for us to troubleshoot further.

Ten trees is a substantial home orchard. Are you selling apples? Our Extension staff may be referred to assist you.  EC631 is the standard home orchard pest and disease publication from OSU.

Hi,
I do have the EC631 publication.
Will try to send the photos. I am not very good at that.

Thanks,
K Usher

The Metro Extension Service Master Gardener Volunteers are available by phone, email, and a web service: contact information.
You may have an easier time being able to talk or email someone. Ask when clinics will be open again as in person policies are changing rapidly in Oregon.  Taking a twig to a clinic sounds old fashioned, but often is the best way to learn what is happening to your tree.
