Tree id. #752490

Asked May 27, 2021, 11:12 AM EDT

I live in Md., but saw this tree in Ohio. Any thoughts on what it might be? It has a pair of mouse's growing with it alongside of the house. Leaves look very similar.

Expert Response

This is a species of dogwood.  Looks like a shrub dogwood.  There are several native species.  We'd have to see the berries and flowers in bloom to narrow down the id.

The Maryland Biodiversity webpage has great photos of all the dogwood species at different stages: https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewFamilies.php?kingdom=Plantae

Put 'dogwood' in the search box. Silky dogwood and gray dogwood are both native to Maryland, but this website has many other species you can look at too.

Thanks ,  but I figured it out already. It's definitely a tree form-
Cornus alternafolia!
An odd find but it fits the description to a T.
