Live oak tree cuttings #752414

Asked May 26, 2021, 8:09 PM EDT

I have four live oaks, two in the front and two in the backyard. For approximately six months, we have noticed that cuttings from these trees on the grass. I suspect it might be squirrels, but I cannot be sure because I never see when they fall on the lawn. Do you know what causes this? I've included two photos hoping it can help someone figure out what's going on.

If the ends are tapered it is most likely twig girdlers. This link will give you information on the insect.

Although unsightly, the beetle is not harmful to the tree and is more of a nuisance.  If it is squirrels, you would see bark stripped from branches so look for that damage.

And finally, the freeze in February took a toll on our Live Oaks.  I attaching a link that will discuss some signs to look for.
