Worm identification #752346

Asked May 26, 2021, 4:16 PM EDT

Hello! It was recommended to me that I share this with you as it sounds like you have some sharp critter identification minds in your organization. My wife and I spotted a few pale threadlike worms wiggling quite actively atop some leaves sticking out of our lawn today and wondered what they were. Most importantly we're hoping to identify if they're anything we should be concerned about with ourselves, our toddler, and our dog running around out there. I tried attaching a video clip so you can see for yourself, but it seems I can't upload it. Instead I am uploading a photo. If you want me to send over the video clip, let me know how I can best get that to you. I hope you don't mind taking a look and sharing your thoughts. Thanks!

Here is a helpful article that explains the difference between comm on worms: http://working-worms.com/what-about-the-workers-earthworm-versus-the-redworm/

The worm in the photo is not identificable at the resolution submitted.  Perhaps a very low mowing of the lawn will eliminate this unknown worm.

Thanks for getting back to me and for trying to identify it. Higher resolution video is attached in case you’re curious and want to have a look. The best guess we’ve come up with so far has been a horsehair worm. I did mow the lawn and haven’t seen them back since, but who knows.
