Can you please give us some suggestions as to keeping Boulder County's high winds from damaging plants in our new garden?

Sandy, hi!  You don't say whether you're in a rural area or not.  Here is a fact sheet on windbreaks, primarily for rural acreage:  https://boulder.extension.colostate.edu/natural-resources-wildlife-rural-properties-pasture/windbreaks/

If you are in a suburban/urban area, the same concept can apply.  Consider planting perennials near a fence or shrubs for protection.  I also use grow-through plant supports for my peonies - I'm not allowed to recommend specific brands, but if you do an internet search for grow-through plant supports you'll see a lot of them available.  You can buy them mail order or at your local big-box home store (or make your own!!).  Last year my peonies went nuts and outgrew the grow-through rings, so I wrapped them loosely with some green twine to hold them up.   The plant supports are really the best solution I have to offer.

Happy gardening!!

Juli
