I believe my daughter is losing a couple of crimson maples in her yard due to verticillium wilt.
I believe I lost my crimson maple to the same thing.
I cut down the tree and ground the root 6" deep and planted a purple fountain about 4-5 feet away from the old trunk. Is the purple fountain susceptible to verticillium wilt

If you mean the European Beech tree variety ‘Purple Fountain’ ( Fagus sylvatica) then, it is resistant to verticillium wilt. Here is a list of plants as a reference for you.
