Help identifying fungi #751997

Asked May 25, 2021, 10:08 AM EDT

We have a mature Honeylocust tree in a low point in our yard. The tree has a thin canopy and some bare branches. Much thinner than its sister 30 feet away and on higher ground. At the base there is missing bark and fungi-like white growth. What is is, and is it treatable?

Rice County Minnesota

Expert Response

I am not able to identify the fungus however it does look like it may be affecting the tree at the base. There are two fungal diseases of Honeylocust, Heart Rot and Ganaderma Rot. I would recommend you contact a local tree care company and ask an arborist to come do a consultation. They can evaluate, likely diagnose and let you know what, if any, next steps are needed.
