Norwegian Pine Lightening Damage #751853
Asked May 24, 2021, 3:48 PM EDT
About a year and a half ago or so, we spoke with someone in Extension and we sent some pictures and you were able to diagnose that our 50 yr old + Norwegian Pine had been hit by Lighting and you suggested letting it go through the season and see how it did.
Attached are some photos of how it looks currently. If you need better ones, please let us know. We did have new growth on the remaining branches this spring. Can we top and or trim the tree at this point and save it?
Thanks for any input/advice you can offer.

Hello,
I'm sorry the tree didn't fare well. Topping is certainly an option. I would recommend seeking the advice from a certified arborist to learn more from someone who can examine it up close and in detail. There will be a cost, and a certified arborist will help you make a sound decision.
Arborists are certified through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). They maintain a website of arborists who are current on their credentials. Use this site to generate a list of arborists near you:

When the list is generated, pay close attention to the qualifications of each arborist shown on the left hand side. I would recommend choosing someone who has a "Hazard Tree" qualification.
I hope this helps.
Thank you,
Julie
