Grass Seed #751844

Asked May 24, 2021, 3:29 PM EDT

I live in northern MN (Randall, 56475) and I am wanting to grass seed my lawn. Currently the yard is very patchy due to the extremely sandy soil we have here. I also have a fairly steep hill in the backyard that I am sure doesn't help grass growth either. I am looking for the best grass seed possible for this sandy, full sun, hilly location. I appreciate any advice you may have! Respectfully, Kyle

Maintaining a lawn and Sandy soil is very challenging as you probably know. In order to have a thicker lawn the lawn will need water frequently because sandy soil dries out so quickly. It will also be cost-effective to allow the lawn grass to set seed in the spring. Resist the urge to mow early in the spring so your grass develops deep roots. Keep it at a height of 3-4 inches so it shades it’s own roots and retains more moisture. Only cut off 1/2 inch at a time.
