Strawberries not setting fruit #751701

Asked May 24, 2021, 9:05 AM EDT

We planted Ogallala strawberries last spring in a raised bed. They grew very well and had many runners, most of which I cut off. Only 3-4 berries last year, which didn't surprise me. The plants look great this spring and have been blooming profusely for about 10 days but don't appear to be setting any fruit. The centers of the blossoms turn black a few days after they have opened. Do I just need to be more patient or is something else going on? Pollination? If a picture would be helpful I could send one. Thank You.

Expert Response

What you have described suggests that the blossom buds were damaged by frost.  If so, any buds that escaped may still produce fruit.
