Aphid infestation in my basement nursery. Help! #751672

Asked May 23, 2021, 9:56 PM EDT

I have an aphid infestation on my nursery seedlings, to include peppers (some only an inch tall), tomatoes, zinnias, swamp milkweed, eggplant. Pretty much every flat except for the lettuce starts. This is my first year to use soil blocking and I have grown my home operation by threefold. I am anxious to figure out how this happened and how to organically get rid of them. I have read the info UMN provides online, but I don't see where infestations in nurseries on vulnerable seedlings is covered. Thank you. Blake Traylor<personal data hidden>

Expert Response

Thank you for your reply.  Have you actually used ladybugs in an indoor nursery with seedlings?  I've used ladybugs in an outdoor setting but never indoors.  I am growing primarily edibles, except for several flats of zinnias.   Thanks.

Thank you for writing back.
I have not but the references that I sent you refer to their use in greenhouses. The search strategy that I used was for nursery aphids with a tilt to edu which means academic institutions.

Thank you.
