Thanks for the question.
Your picture shows fungi growing on a dead tree stump. How do you know that a nearby living tree is being infected?  Could you send us a picture of this living tree where you think it’s being infected?

Thanks much!

The tree next to it appears healthy but it too has fungus as you might be able to see on the ground as I cut it off.  I have many trees in my yard and am afraid they may all become infected if I don’t do something but I don’t know what that “something” is. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response.

In checking our records we see that another master gardener provided you an answer to a similar question of yours on 5/23/21. I really can’t add anything additional to what he stated. Fungi only grow on dead wood. They reproduce through spores that are attracted to decomposing material. We really don’t anticipate that living, healthy trees could be affected. If fungi are growing at the base of a tree, look for decomposing wood there.

Thanks for using this forum.
