Red Currant "Problem" #751455

Asked May 22, 2021, 11:38 AM EDT

We find this deformation on the leaves of our red currant plant each year. It does not seem to impact fruit production and the appearance problem is not too problematic for us, but we did want to make sure it would not affect the long-term health of the plant and if there's anything we should be doing to prevent/cure it in future (keeping in mind we'd rather avoid chemical treatment). Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I can't tell from the images, are these areas raised like a blister on the leaf?

Hello,

I would say they're kind-of embossed. Not filled with anything like a blister, but pressed into the leaf, which does created a raised effect on the one side.

Thanks,
Julie

It is difficult to tell from the images, but one possibility to consider is the currant aphid.
