Hello Claudia,
When Maple trees produce large quantities of seed, the “helicopters”, the tree is putting all of its energy into seed production at the expense of leaf production. This occurs some years but not others and no one seems to know why it happens. It does not stress the tree and once the seeds have fallen, the tree will redirect its energy back to leaf production, if there are no other underlying problems with the tree.

Should your tree not leaf out in the next month, you could contact a certified arborist to discover whether there are other problems existing in the tree. To find an arborist in your area, go to: www.treesaregood.org , the website of the International Society of Arboriculture to find one in your area.
Thank you for your question.
