Weed identification and eradication #751156

Asked May 20, 2021, 5:51 PM EDT

I have a vine/weed growing in my lawn. Weed B Gone doesn't seem to touch it. Do you help identify weeds and offer advice on the eradication of the weed? Thank you.

Expert Response

Greetings,

Yes, we can help identify weeds and recommend options for control. Please share high resolution photos including a close up of all parts of the plant and the entire plant in its surroundings.

Howdy,

I think I got some decent pictures of the weeds. Of course I mowed yesterday so they are a bit shorter.

Also, we have clover mites on a couple window sills. I sprayed some bug killer inside and out, tried baking soda on the sill. These are tough tiny varmints. Any ideas on getting rid of them?

Thanks for your time,

Thank you for the photos, Scott.  I'm working on plant ID.  Could you please confirm that you have clover mites?  Here are photos of mites most commonly found in Oregon:  http://oregonstate.edu/dept/nurspest/mites.htm

I'll be back to you tomorrow.

All of our research says Clover Mite. Tiny brown insects that leave a brown stain when we crush them.

Neem oil is an organic miticide.  Follow label directions.  I works only when applied directly to the mite (by suffocating it).

Scott:  as I live west of the Cascades, I am not familiar with plants in your region.  I put the photos on a plant/weed ID resource, and the answers include lamb's quarters, sorrel and morning glory.  I think mowing it hasn't helped ID it, but I think the fastest and most reliable way to get help is to contact your county Extension office directly:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/baker

Good luck!

Thanks again. I was leaning toward Morning Glory myself. A neighbor that seldom mows, has a very similar looking vine/weed with white flowers.

Assuming that is the correct ID, here is some control information:  https://wric.ucdavis.edu/information/crop/natural%20areas/wr_C/Convolvulus.pdf
