Epimedium blight? #750903

Asked May 19, 2021, 2:52 PM EDT

I have over 20 epimedium in our part shade to shade backyard in Silver Spring. They bloomed fine, but now all seem to have a light white film on the leaves. Do you know what it is and how I can vanquish it? Thank you!

Expert Response

This does not look like a pest or disease issue, fortunately. Instead, it looks like residue on the leaf surface, either from spray drippings applied nearby (insecticide, fungicide - especially copper-based types, or fertilizer with typical blue dye) or perhaps honeydew from sap-sucking insects on an overhanging shrub or tree. If so, it does not need addressing and will weather-off on its own in time.

The leaf underside photo is out-of-focus, but we do not see anything that looks like concerning damage there. The foliage overall actually looks to be in great condition.

Yay! I’m so relieved, especially since I have so many of these lovely perennials. And thank you for such a quick response as well.
