Tree Identification #750684

Asked May 18, 2021, 3:57 PM EDT

Hello - I was hoping I could get some assistance in identifying this tree. There are a number of them planted in the sidewalk strip by the Edgewater at the Cove apartments in Oregon City. I would like to like to plant some of these in my sidewalk strip to replace those that were lost in the ice storm this year. I assume they are on the list of approved street trees as they were very recently planted there. Can you help me identify this tree? Thank you!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Sybil.  I am having difficulty seeing the shape of the leaves, and how they are arranged on the stems.  Are you able to take a photo of some leaves with a piece of white paper behind them, and include the stem near them?  It would also be helpful to know how long and wide are the leaves.  Thank you!

Hello -

Here are some additional pictures.  The leaves are approximately 3 inches long and 1 inch wide.  I also included a picture of the bark if that helps.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you!

Hello again -

One additional thing I forgot to mention about the leaves.  They feel almost like felt - soft and a little fuzzy.  Not sure if that helps, but I wanted to mention it.

Thanks again.
