Peonies not blooming properly #750626

Asked May 18, 2021, 12:06 PM EDT

I have several peonies that seem to have a disease or fungus unless my medium is improperly balance. For the past few years they have not fully blossomed. The buds have browning, some fail to open or partially open and then quickly falter. There are some brown or black spots on the stems. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thank you

Thank you for your question.

Fungal diseases are not uncommon on peonies. You may want to remove the diseased flowers and leaves, and replace old mulch with fresh material. Proper amounts of sunlight and good air circulation are needed to keep plants healthy. You may want to submit a soil sample to be sure there is balanced nutrition and pH in your bed.

Here is a link with more information about possible peony diseases and a link for collecting a soil sample.
