Rust on Apple Trees - Fungicide Spray #750076

Asked May 15, 2021, 12:14 PM EDT

Is it appropriate to spray for apple rust in the Twin Cities area at this time (during bloom). I have a Zestar and a Honeycrisp tree. I use Captan. Maybe there is a better chemical fungicide to use? Thank you, Bob Delain

Thank you for writing.
I cannot confirm your diagnosis.
Most apple trees are in full bloom now, making it too late to apply treatments.  The treatment is also hard on pollinators and on the edibility of the fruit. This is a summary of the matter from our colleagues at Clemson University.  https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/cedar-apple-rust/
