tomato blight #750032

Asked May 15, 2021, 7:24 AM EDT

I had tomato blight last year and heard that I should clean my garden tools and tomato cages before they used again this year. What do I use to clean them?

Expert Response

We recommend you use one of the following three choices-10% bleach solution, rubbing alcohol/70% or 1% alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium saccharinate/Lysol all purpose cleaner.   See website for additional details.

It is also a good idea to rotate tomatoes every couple of years.  Buying resistant varieties is also a preventive measure:

We have a Christmas cactus which came originally from Germany.  What direction window should we have it by for over the winter.  The house temp will be set at about 55 degrees.  Thank you

Christmas cacti are great plants and to have one from Germany is amazing. We have information about light and temperature on our Extension webpage Holiday Cacti.
