Grass is dying #749949

Asked May 14, 2021, 2:38 PM EDT

The grass in front of our east facing Edina home has started to die off, getting progressively worse and spreading over the past 3 years. We thought it was snow mold, so our lawn service treated it as such. But it only gotten worse and we are now wondering if it might be something else. We know we have voles and do get the Asian/Japanese beetles. Can someone help us diagnose and then fix? Thanks for your advice.

Hi,

Try digging about an inch or two down under the dead grass to see if you have grubs (which could explain the JBs). If you see them, it’s late to treat them now without using some pretty harsh pesticides.

Here’s what the U says about treating grubs: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/japanese-beetles

If you don’t see grubs, there are other reasons for patches in lawns. See this:https://web.extension.illinois.edu/lawntalk/weeds/managing_patch_disease_in_lawns.cfm

I’ve noticed lots of dead patches in lawns in my neighborhood this year.

Thank you for your inquiry and good luck! Replied May 14, 2021, 3:33 PM EDT
