apple tree fire blght #749931

Asked May 14, 2021, 1:38 PM EDT

Two years ago my apple tree was infected with fire blight I called a reputable tree company who cut off some limbs and sprayed the tree. Last year they came again in the spring and sprayed again the blossoms were open and they all died. Today, the blossoms are open, the company returned and I did not let them spray. Is there a time when I can have them return and spray without harm to my apples? Thanks for any help you can give Tony Verderaime

Expert Response

Tony, I am forwarding you information on timing for fire blight. You can find this information at  Extension.colostate.edu  fact sheet  2.800. :extension.colostate.edu/topic 2.800.  here is a small amount of info regarding the timing of flower formation: Fungicide timing is prebloom, and again at petal fall, then at two-week
intervals until mid-June (young, nonbearing fruit trees until late
July) if there is a history of disease or if weather conditions are good
for infection. If powdery mildew is not controlled on highly
susceptible varieties, there may be a poor bloom and reduced winter
hardiness the following year.

I hope this information is helpful.
