Plant identification #749455

Asked May 12, 2021, 11:10 AM EDT

I do not know whether this is a flowering plant or a weed. The contractor installed new plantings. I think this may have volunteered amongst the flowers and ferns. Tentatively, my guess is stinging nettle. Before I remove I wanted to positively identify. Thanks in advance. -Bill

My guess is that it is a weed other than nettle. Nettles should have hairs on the leaves and stem

that seem to be missing in your picture. Nettle leaves are opposite of one another on a square stem, your plant leaves are alternate. You can double check the plant ID and learn more about nettles on the web at: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/urtica-dioica

To get a closer examination an maybe an ID, take a sample to your OSU Extension office.
