Few blossoms on Honey Crips trees #749436
Asked May 12, 2021, 10:06 AM EDT
I have two Honey Crisp trees that had disease last year with the apples with scabs and worms as I sprayed too late. This year the trees only have a dozen or so blossoms, unlike last year when they were full of blossoms. I’ve sprayed once before the bloom and it’s my understanding that I shouldn’t spray again until the blossoms fall. But I don’t understand why there are so few blossoms this year. Do I need to feed the trees?

Expert Response
Honeycrisp bears fruit on an every other year basis. There are a few on the off year but next year there should be a lot of blooms again. Instead of the spraying, try bagging your apples as described in this article: Prepare for apple maggots (umn.edu)
