What is available in Anchorage? #749420

Asked May 12, 2021, 6:34 AM EDT

Hi! My family and I are moving to Anchorage from overseas. I am not familiar with what is available up there. I see lots of CSAs, greenhouses, etc, which is fantastic. Does anyone happen to know if there are organically grown plants, starts, herbs, fruit trees/bushes available for purchase up there? Otherwise, I would need to bring them with me from the L48 when we drive up. Thanks for your help! Amber Clark

There are many greenhouses and CSA's with organic produce available.  The best farmers market in the state is in Anchorage.  The Mat-Su Valley just north of Anchorage is home to many organic farms and growers.  Bells Nursery in Anchorage has every thing you can imagine.

BTW, Canada will not allow veggies, fruits or other plant material across the border.

Dear Dr Brown,

Thank you so much.  This is fantastic information.  I really appreciate all of it.  I am looking forward to the challenge and experience of growing all kinds of things up there.   Also, I am really loving the videos and info from the University extension program.

Thanks again.
