Unknown pear tree #749419

Asked May 12, 2021, 6:19 AM EDT

I have had this pear tree since it was a12” bare root. It’s been 11 years this is the first year that it has bloomed. It does have thorns on the branches. I would like to know what kind of tree this is?

Aitkin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Thank you for writing. That is a pear tree.
Pear Trees have thorns.

This article discusses fruiting.  Excess fertilizing causes the plant to make leave not flowers(fruit).
Frost is a problem.
But the other issue is, do you have a compatible mate to pollinate it.

Thank you for writing back.

I do not know of any way to identify the exact species of pear from a picture. The Kieffer Pear is hardy in zone 4 and looks like a universal best bet.

I hope this helps.
