I am planting several Thujas near a septic drainfield for privacy. Can you give me information on which would be most apprpriste because of root development. How far woould you suggest planting from the drainfield ? I have approximatley 10 feet
. Could I use some manner of root retention to protect the drainfield pipes? They are the newer type. About 5 years old. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Hi, good question! According to Clemson University, " Shrubs with less aggressive root systems should never be planted any closer than 10 feet and small less aggressive trees no closer than 20 feet from the drain field. Planting these less-aggressive species, such as boxwoods, hollies or arborvitae towards the drier ends of the drain lines may also reduce the risk for problems down the road."
