Dividing perennials? #749386

Asked May 11, 2021, 7:27 PM EDT

Hello! I just purchased several native perennials in various size containers. Can I divide them before planting? Or do I have to wait a few years before dividing? Thank you!

If you just purchased these perennials in containers from your local retail store, they probably won't need to be divided now.  The time to divide depends on the type of perennial. So I would go ahead and plant them, frost and weather permitting.  Please see the two below references for further details.
