Thank you for writing.

This is worse rings. There is something seriously wrong with the yard. The first possibility is that this is due to grubs. https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/japanese-beetles#:~:text=Japanese%20beetle%20grubs%20are%20pests,southeast%20region%20of%20the%20state

Management is possible but the diagnosis must be confirmed first. Slice off a layer of turf and look for grubs as described in the links above, send me a picture.

There is a long shot that it could be fungal in which case it will get better. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/turf/circular.html

Please send the picture and we can go over the recommendations on how to use the treatments if you have grubs.

Hi Steve,

Haha yeah, definitely something seriously wrong with the lawn!

Ok, i think it’s grubs after your astute suggestion. Here’s on of them from a little section of dead grass.

The links I sent you have ways to treat this.  Capture an emerging adult.  My guess is Japanese Beetle by odds.  European Chafer is a new arrival.
