Douglas County Nevada

Expert Response

You are looking at a Flowering Almond, Prunus glandulosa.

It does very well in our area. It is sometimes difficult to find at the local nurseries.

Same to you Wendy :)  p.s have two of those stunning almond bushes in my yard next to a gorgeous lilac. Am getting ready to add some wild flower seeds for the bees :) here is a pic of my lalaliliac in the back yard. enjoy her!  How crucial is it to trim the blooms when they dry up? It is a HUGE bush and soooo difficult for me to trim, being disabled! doooh! LOVE my beautiful bushes!

Very nice. If you are not going to try to reduce the height of your lilac, it is not critical to prune right after flowering. Thinning of branches and deadheading flowers can be done later. Just remember as soon as the lilac starts putting on new growth new flower buds are being formed. So you will not want to cut those unless you are willing to have fewer blooms next year.
Here are a couple of links just in case you need them.

What a sweetheart you are!! Thank you Wendy!! Thanks for the links! My lilac is HUGE! Would need a big ladder to trim her in the fall when the blooms turn dry, IF i was even capable of doing so, that is how big she is! She bloomed spectacularly this season, despite me not trimming many of the old blooms! Thank you for the links as well! <3
If you are ever down in Gardnerville, please stop by! I live in Ruhenstroth. It so lovely here! We have AMAZING horse trails, bike trails, walking trails, and of course is where the dinosaur bones were found about 20 plus years ago! Would LOVE to have you :) My good friend Mary Zabel worked in the disabilities resource center for over 20 years. I helped her raised about 50 grand for students with disabilities ":) 6 degrees of separation :)

That is great to hear Mimi. I actually worked 1 day a week in Gardnerville at the Extension office for 18 years. I love the area and really love how beautiful your lilac is!

Take care.
